Dark Knight game replacement...good or bad?

I played the demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum (coming in June for PS3, X360, PC) in a Wal Mart kiosk, and I have to say, it was amazing. The graphics were stunning. STUNNING! It almost looked like a movie. The gameplay was awesome. You can use all of Batman's gadgets, as well as weapons and martial arts moves. Actually, if you press X, you flip over the henchman and hit him from behind.

The full game will feature a story written by Paulo Dini, who also wrote Lost: Season 1 and Batman: The Animated Series. Its about joker taking over the asylum with all the other villains. Sounds really cool.

But the question is- Was it a good decision to make a separate Batman game apart from the Dark Knight film?

Well, one plus is that its a new story, new gameplay, and pretty much new everything. It probably will have many plot twists and turns.

But, wouldn't a movie game be more popular? And (for the developers) more money making? I read somewhere that they lost an estimated $1 million by not making a game to go with the movie.

On the other side, the game may have been rushed into development if it was based on the film. BAD!!! The game needed to have people spent time on. RUSHED IS BAD!!!!

So my opinion is that while they certainly lost more money by making a separate game, they did us (people who play video games) by giving us something new, fresh and exciting. But why are you listening to me? VOTE FOR YOURSELF!*

I am probably going to pre-order the game because of the amazing demo. This game is going to be great, even though it's not based on the best film ever made.
