POST 175

I'm seeing Transformers Revenge of the Fallen in IMAX this weekend!!!! It looks pretty good, but probably not better than the first one. Can't wait!

Quantum of Solace Review

Surprisingly this is the first 007 movie I have ever seen. My parents don't usually let me watch James Bond, but for some reason I was aloud to see this one.

This film starts off with an exciting car chase scene, and the film really doesn't get any slower. The action in non-stop, and the whole movie is a thrill ride. Guns, cars, and everything you'd expect from a spy film.

But, that's the problem. It is only what you would expect, but not much more. I was really expecting this movie to be amazing, and it was good, but it is not my favorite spy movie. The reason why MI:3 was so good is that the villain was truly evil, scary, and unstoppable. The villain is QoS isn't really any of those.

That could be party the actors fault. While Daniel Craig is incredible, it's kinda of awkward when everyone else is just kinda average. I think they should've got an actor who seems scary for the villain.

The special effects are great, and that is pretty much the reason we watch spy films: to see stuff blow up. And there's plenty of that in QoS. But what this film lacks is a really good story. I do like how he is out for revenge, but sometimes it just seems fake.

Quantum of Solace is a great popcorn film. If you come to see explosions, guns, and action, Qauntum of Solace will not disappoint. But if you want a spy film with an engaging story and scary villain, mixed with explosions, I suggest you watch MI:3 instead. While this movie is great, it comes out short of anything to remember it by, besides a couple action scenes.

Lair for PS3

I'm trying to stock up on video games for the family reunion, and I think me and moviebuffjr will love this game. It's a game where you are a dragon rider trying to save the world. It looks like it will have good graphics, interesting story and fun gameplay. I also heard that the soundtrack is amazing. Plus, it's like 15 bucks on amazon.com. Check out the video at: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/lair/video/6160140/lair-official-trailer-3?tag=videos;title;20

Can't wait for the reunion!

Ghostbuster Video Game Review

(I'm going to be rating video games on 5 things now: graphics/visuals, story/premise, gameplay, sound, and multiplayer experience)

Who ya gunna call?

GHOSTBUSTERS!

This is one of my highly anticipated games, and it was worth the wait.

Graphics: While the animations are a bit stiff, the realism in the game is outstanding. 8.5/10

Story: The story was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, the original writers of the movies and actors for two of the 'busters. While not as believable as the films, it is a great sequel the Ghostbusters 2, and really fun. 8.3/10

Sound:(Most of) the voice acting is great. The explosion sounds, the proton pack sounds, the ghost sounds, every sound is phenomenal in this game, and makes it more fun to play. 9.3/10

Gameplay: This game takes 3rd person shooting and puts a twist to it. There are 3 steps to capturing a ghost. 1-Weaken it; 2-Slam it, 3-Capture it. It is really fun and is everything you'd expect from Ghostbusters. Also, the PKE meter is surprisingly fun to use. 9/10

Multiplayer Experience: There is no offline co-op or any offline multiplayer for that matter. There is online play, but I haven't tried it yet. I'll wright a separate review for the multiplayer later. I haven't gotten to it because the single-player is so fun! But lack of split-screen/offline multiplayer makes it a 7/10.

While mathematically this game should be a 8.4, I can't agree. This game is fantastic, and new gameplay mixed with great sounds makes this a memorable gaming experience.

A- 9.1/10

Stardust Review

When I saw the trailers for this in 2007, I didn't think much of it. But when I was looking for movies at the library, I saw it, and decided to give it a chance.

Stardust is a fantasy adventure film that is GREAT for all ages. There's action for the guys, romance for the girls, and cheesy humor for the 3 year olds. This movie really is a great family movie.

The acting in phenomenal. It might just be because they have English accents, but each actor seems to be dedicated to their roll, no matter how small. There is even an appearance by the guy who's in the English version of the Office (I have no idea what his name is). The actors really bring this magical film alive.

The special effects are not great, but plot makes up for it. The story is told in a way that engages the viewers and really makes them feel like part of the movie. Not many films can achieve this in a way that Stardust does.

I know I said the humor was for three-year-olds, but that isn't really true. Everyone will laugh at one part, whether its the ghost brothers or the pirate captain wearing girl clothes. Like Pixar's Up, everyone can enjoy the humor in this movie.

Really, Stardust is just plain amazing. It has action, romance, humor, adventure, great engaging plot, amazing acting, and everything else you'd expect from a fun fantasy film. Really, Stardust is definitely worth it.

Furry Pothead

Bedtime Stories review

Ugh..................Adam Sandler thinks he's SO funny. Well, I'll put that aside as I write this review. :P

You've probably heard or seen the recent Disney film Bedtime Stories. And I'm telling you, you probably wish you hadn't. This movie is desperate. It seems like it could be an unprofessional film that enters a contest and gets last place. Yeah, it really is that bad.

It's been a while since it was painful to watch a movie, but this reminds me what its like. The jokes are REALLY bad. Like they expect us to think that a giant booger monster is the funniest thing in the whole world. I know, little kids might like it, but really, I've seen kid movies with good humor (Pixar's Up was amazing), and this is so disappointing.

Okay, I know I wasn't going to say anything about Adam Sandler, but really, this was his worst movie. Actually, the only good movie I can think of him in is Click, which was not that great. But anyway, the acting in this is desperate. They (actors) must've got paid a ton of money, because none of them were good at all.

The story is, while somewhat original, uninspired, too simple to enjoy, and flat-out boring. Basically Sandler wants something and tells the kids a story and he gets or doesn't get what he wants. It is sad how much effort was put in this movie. Usually Disney does put effort into there films, but Bedtime Stories in an exception.

While the films premise seems good on paper, this movie did not turn out good at all, and I don't even recommend a weekend rental. This movie is trying to get money by advertising, not by making a fun family flick.

Up review

You would think that year after year eventually Pixar would screw up. That has never happened, and it will never happen. Up is a great example why people enjoy family movies.

The heart-breaking/warming story is amazingly written and really funny. Like moviebuff said, the humor is for everyone. No matter what age you are, you will be laughing pretty much the entire movie.

Lately the movies I've seen have good action that I wasn't expecting. Up has great action, but not as good as the Incredibles. But what it lacks in action it makes up for in it's story, heart and humor.

I was a little surprised at the blood at the beginning, but its not that bad, considering the other Summer blockbuster flicks coming out this year.

Up is a family movie you WILL NOT want to miss.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop review

I was surprised to see that Roger Ebert liked this movie. He was pretty much the only one on Rotten Tomatoes! :)

Anyway, this movie is what you expect with humor. Don't watch expecting Jack Black or Will Ferrel funny, but more like "haha I just put on a hello kitty band-aid" kind of funny.

I wasn't expecting good action in this movie, but actually, it was pretty cool, with a plot twist in the middle. I didn't know there would be guns in a mall cop movie!

So, its what you expect from a kid-comedy, with added action. Definitely check out Paul Blart for a fun family movie that anyone can enjoy.
