2 games I'm getting

This game is really cool. Its a third person shooter with a twist, which is you can change the land. Crazy, right? It's made by LucasArts, which is owned by George Lucas. He made The Force Unleashed, as well as every other Star Wars and Indiana Jones game, so this game should be really good.  I ordered this on Monday so it should come tomorrow or Monday of next week.

I first thought to look at this because they're are making a Disney movie of the PS2 series. The PS2 game, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, is based on a successful 1989 PC game. Prince of Persia for the PS3 is supposed to be a whole new story with new characters. The graphics rare supposed to be great, and the game is said to be really fun. MovieBuffJr, I suggest that you buy Prince of Persia: Sand in Time, because it's supposed to be an action packed PS2 classic. I'm going to Gamestop tomorrow to pick this up used. Can't wait!

Push Movie Review

I picked this up at the kiosk at the local market last night, not expecting a decent movie in anyway. Just look at the Rotten Tomatoes reviews: 17%. Roger Ebert says, "Push has vibrant cinematography and decent acting, but I'm blasted if I know what it's about. 1.5/4" After watching this movie, its hard to disagree. You pretty much are completely confused until the end. But Push is definitely well-thought out, and its got some pretty awesome special effects. Let me explain...

The story is basically X-Men meets Jumper. It's like X-Men where its a group of basically mutants, and its like Jumper where the government is trying to track them down because they're too dangerous. I wasn't a big fan of Jumper (you can see my review, I gave it a D+), but they took the best part of that movie and put it into Push. This sounds great, but when you think about it, this movie really is copycat. Push does have some originality, but it mainly copied a bunch of movies and TV shows (I forgot to mention Heroes). But I guess of you say that, you also have to say all super hero movies are the same, which is not true. It's just that Push didn't really come up with it's own ideas, but its more of a collage of great super hero ideas. I don't think thats a bad thing, in fact, if they did it right (which hey did), this could actually work (which it did).

Of course, this movie is going to be greatly graded on its special effects. This is another one of Push's strengths. The action sequences are fantastic, and the last fight scene is exciting, thrilling, and scary at the same time. Everything was as realistic as any super hero film (including the Dark Knight). Of course, if the movie has no story, all this is pointless action, which is what I thought of Transformers 2

Basically I already said the plot, but what makes this movie good is its ability to be smart. I really like the plan they had at the end, which is well thought out. But the movie is not always smart. Sometimes is just plain silly. Its as simple as that. The asian screaming people had the dumbest power, and they weren't needed in the movie at all.

Another huge problem is character development. Actually, there is none. There is never a point in the movie where we actually care about anyone but the little girl. Okay, that's a little dramatic, but the movie just doesn't make us feel extremely devastated if someone is about to die (not to spoil anything, I'm just saying in theory). So we do care for the two main characters most of the time, but we never have a reason why. I just wish instead of all the action in the first 5 minutes we could have more backstory (especially for the Dakota Fanning girl, she just walks into the guys apartment and suddenly she's a main character). We do learn more throughout the movie, but I just think we should care for the characters from the beginning.

The acting was impressive, considering Dakota Fanning (Charlottes Web) and Chris Evens (Fantastic Four) were in it, but to my surprise they were the best actors in the whole movie. Crazy, huh? The evil black guy (sounds like Jumper, right?) gives a solid performance, and I've never even heard of him. Really this is Push's biggest surprise.

Now I've been complementing the story a lot, but this is where Ebert's quote comes into my review. This movie is darn confusing, and I'm glad to realize its not just me being stupid (because Roger Ebert is a genius. Yeah, that's exaggerating). But really, everything goes by so fast that I had to rewind the first 3 minutes numerous times just to understand what was going on.

Another minor complaint, I really don't like the art direction, music, and shaky camera. Gives the movie a different feel than it really should.

So there are some extreme positives and extreme negatives. Thats why this is my longest review, and one of the hardest ones to write. While I completely understand the horrible reviews, there is just something I like about Push. Maybe its the effects, maybe its the somewhat cool story. Maybe it's because I had low expectations, or maybe I'm a sucker for super hero movies. Whatever you want to say, Push is a good movie for me, but it may not be for you. I suggest a rental just to see what you think, but if you're like me, your gunna love it.

Special Edition Post 200 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review

As you can see, there is a lot of hype for this movie. It's the second to last film (actually, there splitting the last one into to parts) for the seemingly endless book and movie franchise. Everyone's at least heard of Harry Potter by now, and if you haven't, then all I can say is wow.

I was really excited for this movie just after I read the book, and the film is true to it's famous book that it's based on. The plot flows very well, and nothing remotely interesting seemed to have been taken out. I really do think this film did justice to the book, and if that's all you needed to hear, then this movie is definitely for you.

You might think I'm crazy, but I actually like how Voldemort (whoops, I'm not supposed to say his name!) was only in the movie as a kid. It made him seem more evil, and the actors for teenage and kid Voldemort were really creepy; they did a great job. This movie added depth as well as mystery and fear to Voldemort's character. This is what made this movie great.

What I am missing though is the action scenes. There were barely any dueling, which I always thought was cool. What I did like was the lack of Quiditch. For some reason I've just never been really excited about the wizard sport. In fact, before I ever saw the first Harry Potter movie, I didn't even know wizard's played sports at all! Anyway, back to the action. I guess if you want action, see the latest Michael Bay film in theaters. If you want a deep story with great characters, Harry Potter is the movie to watch this summer.

Speaking of characters, that reminds me of the acting. As usually, Daniel Radcliff gives a solid but somewhat uninteresting (okay, not really, but you know what I mean if you've seen it) performance in this film. He's not really bad in it, but, you know, for this hype you'd expect top quality. Now Dumbledore on the other hand gives a superb, competing for the best acting in the summer in my opinion. All of the things he says are deep and meaningful. Everyone else is average, but not bad. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Snape. He is another competitor for best acting. You really don't know if he's good or evil (unless you've read Deathly Hallows).

This was probably the funniest HP film in the series. My favorite british word is now "snogging". In America we say "making out", but the british always come up with strange ways to say things. The love humor is hilarious, and it kinda brings comic relief to this dark movie.

Speaking of "dark movie", this SHOULD NOT be rated PG. It's really crazy. We almost took my 6-year-old sister, then realized that was a bad idea considering she didn't like Star Trek. Just a warning

I really like this movie; It really adds to the series. Lack of action scenes don't take much away from the rating.

Transformers 2 Movie Review

Sorry I'm late, I saw this a couple weeks ago and I forgot to write a review. Here it is:

I am a big fan of the first movie. You can imagine my excitement when I saw the first trailer at the super bowl. Then more trailers came out. I started getting worried. The movie started looking worse and worse, and already I started getting disappointed. After one trailer I almost didn't want to see it, but then I remembered how amazing the first one was.My expectations were low, but not extremely low.

I'm going to do this review like moviebuffjr where I say the prod and cons. I don't normally do this, but for some reason its seems better for this movie. I dunno, but here's what I think.

Pros: This movie has amazing effects. It's crazy how all of the Transformers, well, transform. The story is somewhat interesting, but lacks much heart. The action sequences are a thrill-ride, and the whole movie is nonstop action.

Cons: This movie is loud. Yeah, you know it coming in. But really, do we care which Transformer is the good guy anymore? Even if we did, which is which? At first you can tell them apart by there color (deceptions are silver-ish, autobots are colorful), but by the end you really can't tell.

The acting is sad, and Megan Fox is the worst. I really don't care whether Sam or McKayla says "I love you" first. I mean, come on, that was CHEASY!

My main problem is the mature jokes. Whoahhh, come one hasbro, there are 7-year-olds watching. I won't get into the details, but some of the stuff in this movie is really bad. I guess that's hasbro's sick scheme to get kids AND teenagers to see it. Really low, in my opinion.

This movie is like candy, or a roller-coaster. It's pretty cool for the most part, but you get really sick from it. The special effects are worth the ticket price alone, but this movie lacks heart. Transformers is kinda disappointing, but the special effects and actions sequences are good fun. This is a good article that explains how Transformers could be better, cutting out some dumb scenes: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20289277,00.html

Terminator Salvation Movie Review

I watched this on quicksilverscreen.com. Here's my review:

The only Terminator movie I've seen is T2 on TV (edited). I looked up the story for the whole series on wikipedia so it made sense, and I'm glad I did. This movie would have not made sense if I hadn't known the story for the rest of the films.

This movie follows John Connor and the battle against Skynet, as well as him trying to save his soon-to-be father, Kyle Reese (that sounds weird, but it's true). It also shows Kyle's story, and Marcus Wright's story, too. All these stories come together in an action packed climatic scene that has to be one of the best finishing action sequences of the summer. *claps out loud*

The special effects also have to be one of the best of the summer. The Terminators look great, the explosions are nice, and everything is incredible. What really surprised me was Arnold Swarzenegger (I don't know how to spell that) CGI appearance. I had read that they recreated his face in CGI for this movie, but I had no idea how amazing it looked. *claps out loud, again*

The biggest problem about Salvation is it's length. 1:45 Is too short for summer flicks now, when the average time is like 2:00 to 2:30. Like moviebuff said, there could have been some interesting character development in this movie. This kinda of reminds me of what entertainment weekly said, "This movie is a robot."

Like I said before, I liked how they had some interesting back story. It really added to the movie. It brings some cool stuff in the Terminator franchise.

Overall (I always end my reviews with "Overall"...don't worry, I don't wear overalls. Wow, cheesy joke alert!) I have to say Terminator is a great film with minor flaws. The flaws do not bring down the movie though, so I still recommend it.

Pirates of the Caribbean PS3 Review

Okay, I know I said this wasn't multiplayer, but when I got it I actually found out it did! Here's my review:

Graphics: This game has terrible graphics. This is not what a PS3 game should look like. But, it does have good animations, so I guess they're not completely terrible. 7.5/10

Story: We've all seen the movie. 10/10

Sound: All the actors from the film are here. Yay!!! Usually the voice acting is top notch. 9/10

Gameplay: I was expecting shallow gameplay, especially considering the last Disney game I played (Bolt), but surprisingly it's not that shallow. There are tons of different attacks, and all of them are hilarious (so far I've only played as Jack Sparrow). There was move where you can kick in the "you-know-where", and that always cracks me up. In the game, there is also lots of jumping, rope climbing, box-moving, and everything you'd expect from an action pirate game. But the best part of the game is the boss fights. In the boss fight, instead of using your regular moves, you go into a dueling mode, where you control the sword with the analog stick. You'll be dodging, attacking countering, and using special attacks that you build up. This really gives the gameplay of the game an interesting twist, and it is really fun to use. 10/10

Multiplayer: While you can't do the levels as co-op, you can do separate co-op challenges and vs duels. I really wish you could just play the levels co-op, but at least this game HAS multiplayer. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but I know pretty much what you do. It sounds really fun do fight a friend on dueling mode, so I can't wait to do that. 8.5/10

Overall, Pirates of the Caribbean is a surprisingly good game. While the graphics are so bad it's funny, the gameplay holds up strong, and this game can be nothing else than loads of swash-buckling action fun.

9/10 (an average)

I'm also brining Pirates for PS3

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLDS END PS3

Terminator VS Lost Planet: Which is better?

VS

I gave them both the same rating, but you can decide which is really better:

Lost Planet Pros:
Better graphics, more fun to use guns, better voiceovers

Lost Planet Cons:
No local multiplayer, not so good cover system

Terminator Pros:
Excellent cover system, terminator are near indestructible, split screen

Terminator Cons:
Bad graphics, repetitive levels

So, I guess you can decide what's better, cuz I like them both the same!

Lost Planet PS3 Review

Graphics: The game's graphics are great. The aliens look fantastic, the animations are smooth, and the snow covered planet looks incredible. 10/10

Story: Nice story that's fits in with the game. 9.5/10

Sound: The explosions sounds are nice, and the voice work is fine (most of the time). 8.5/10

Gameplay: Amazing gameplay. You battle giant aliens while keeping up your thermal energy, which is a nice touch and adds some variety. Boss fights are incredible. 10/10

Multiplayer: Online multiplayer which is fun, but lacks local multiplayer (ugh.........)

Overall: 9.5/10 See next post for Terminator comparison.

Terminator Salvation PS3 Review

Okay, so I finally traded in the XBOX version and got a PS3 version. Here's my review:

Graphics: To me, this is the games weakest point. This could easily be on the PS2, and their mouths don't even move when they talk. But, the city looks great and the explosions are awesome. 8/10

Story: Great story. It is a prequel to the summer film, and it gives some interesting backstory. 9/10

Sound: Everything sounds amazing except for the fact that Christian Bale doesn't do a voiceover, and the voice that replaces him doesn't sound anything like him. 8.5/10

Gameplay: Wow, the gameplay is awesome. It isn't just a point and shoot. There is tons of strategy that's helpful in 2 player co-op (finally a 2 player game!). For example, instead of shooting the spider, you have to flank him.  One person needs to distract, while the other has to attack the battery from behind. This all comes together with a great cover system, allowing you to seek and move between cover easily. There are plenty of weapons, like shotguns, machine guns, pipe bombs, grenades, rocket launchers, and that's just the beginning. 10/10

Multiplayer: Really fun multiplayer. Games need to be more like Terminator when it comes to multiplayer experience. 10/10

Overall: 9.5/10 This game is great, and the only problems are minor and don't take the fun away from the game. Easily in my tope 5 games of all time. Yeah, that good.

The Funny Story About Terminator the Video Game

Okay, so I ordered Terminator Salvation on eBay from a seller that's 100% positive. So after a couple days, I send him a message, and he doesn't respond. I send him another, and still no answer. Finally, I sent a third message, and he told me there was a weeklong blackout from a storm in his area, so he didn't have computer access. So he shipped it after about a week after I paid for it. It arrived a couple days later, but when I saw the green, I almost screamed. After the long wait, I had gotten the XBOX 360 version, not the PS3. So know I'm going to take it to Best Buy and see if they let me trade it. Funny, huh?

Motorstorm Review

I got this game for 8 bucks on eBay, so I obviously wasn't expecting to much. Here's the review:

Graphics: Motorstorm was one of the few games that came out at the same time as the PS3, so you'd expect the graphics to be terrible. WRONG! The graphics are fantastic, and the rag-doll physics are hilarious. 9/10

Story: It's a racing game. 'nuff said.

Sound: While the music is slightly annoying, the motor sounds and the explosions all sound terrific. 9/10

Gameplay: This is motorstorm's  strongest aspect. The physics feel great, and the game runs well. But the best part is the option of all the vehicles: semi-truck, motorcylce, dune buggy, just to name a few. 9/10

Multiplayer: Again, no splitscreen. There is online, but I haven't tried it and I probably will never. 6/10

Overall: 8.2/10 Again, another game without multiplayer. *sigh* Maybe I'll get the sequel, that's supposed to have multiplayer.

7/9/09

My Favorite Video Game

Ordered 2 more games: Lost Planet And Pirates of the Caribbean

I got a ton of money from selling my PSP on ebay, so I bought some new games!

Lost Planet is about another planet that's being taken over by alien monsters. It's a third person shooter, and it sounds really fun.
Pirates of the Caribbean also sounds really fun (that's why I bought it), but again, the common problem occurs: THERES NO MULTIPLYER!!!!! But, I got it REALLY cheap, so I think it will still be worth it..

7/8/09

Ratchet and Clank PS3 Review

Ratchet and Clank came the other day! Here's my review:

Graphics: The graphics are pretty good, but what's great are the cutscenes. It is literally hollywood quality, with animation similar to the movie Hoodwinked. It is really amazing. The in-game graphics are good too, but the cutscenes are just fantastic. 10/10

Story: If you've ever played any Ratchet and Clank games, then you'll know pretty much what it's about. Ratchet, a furry alien, and his robot, Clank, are on an adventure to save the galaxy. While that seems like it's unoriginal and uninspired, the story is actually quite engaging and you really care for Ratchet and his robot friend. Also, the jokes are pretty funny, so that helps a lot. 9/10

Gameplay: While fairly linear, the game is REALLY fun. There are tons of weapons to find, gadgets to use, and stuff to explode. I mean, that's why we play video games right? To see stuff explode? The only time where this game gets frustrating is platforming when the elements come into play. I've never been a fan of jumping onto platforms, and then missing, and starting over. So that brings R&C gameplay a little down, but most of the game is shooting stuff, so the gameplay is still really fun. Also, they include some interesting mini-game type things, where your falling from a spaceship into a crowded metropolis and you have to tilt the controller to steer out of traffic. Or you tilt the controller to fly through rings. It's things like this that keep the game from getting repetitive.  8.6/10

Sound: The voice acting is incredible, and the soundtrack is not half bad. Pretty much everything in this game is animated movie quality. 9/10

Multiplayer: The biggest problem with R&C is the lack of multiplayer. It's really strange, because PS2 Ratchet and Clank games had splitscreen battles and I think even co-op. But this one doesn't even have online play, which is pretty much required of PS3 games now (well, by me at least :P).

91.5/100 (an average)

Overall R&C is a great game, but the mysterious lack of multiplayer and frustrating platforming mechanics bring the score down a little.

7/5/09

Games coming this week

Terminator Salvation:

Motorstorm:

Ratchet and Clank (this one looks funny!):

I think Terminator looks the best, because there's two player split-screen cooperative mode. That's gunna be sweet!

7/3/09

Lair PS3 Review

Lair is a great game. What could be better than flying dragons that breath fire, huge civilizations battling each other, and tons of explosions?

Graphics/Visuals: This game looks amazing. The graphics are easily the strongest point of Lair. Really, the effects (like the water) look film quality. 9.6/10

Story/Premise: The story is great (from what I've played so far), and I assume there will be many twists and turns. 9/10

Gameplay: This is where we run into problems. You steer by actually tilting the controller, which is great and adds to the realism. But the problem is the difficulty of the game. I had played the same level twice over the space of 45 minutes and I still haven't beaten it. But, the rest of the gameplay works great, and the game is a lot of fun. 7.5/10

Sound: Lair has a custom soundtrack that is movie quality (this game just seems like a movie!). The voice acting is good, and the sound effects are great. 9/10

Multiplayer: None. Its a shame because dragon vs dragon duels could of been so cool.

Overall: 8.6/10 (an average) Lair is fun but lack of multiplayer and frustrating levels keep it from being the best PS3 game (besides inFamous, of course!).
